It is the English language version of,EN 10036:1989 “Chemical analysis of ferrous materials. Determination of total,carbon in steels and irons. Gravimetric method after combustion in a stream of,oxygen”, published by the European Committee for Standardization (CEN). It,supersedes BS 6200-3.8.1:1985, which is withdrawn.,Attention is drawn to the fact that this standard specifies the use of soda,asbestos. In view of the hazardous nature of asbestos, a suitable alternative,reagent, for example an inert ceramic impregnated with sodium hydroxide,should be used instead. A proposal to amend the text of the European Standard,has been submitted to the CEN Central Secretariat.,A further method for the determination of carbon in ferrous materials has been,published as BS 6200-3.8.3.,A British Standard does not purport to include all the necessary provisions of a,contract.
